The government of Iran fears a fourth coronavirus (Covid-19) wave is on its way after several people died from the highly infectious strain emanating from the United Kingdom. Currently, just below 60,000 people have perished officially from coronavirus in Iran. However, the real figure is likely to be higher.

Recent hope had materialized based on decreasing deaths in Iran from fresh highs only a few months ago. Yet, the fear now is that the new highly infectious variant will lead to rising numbers of infections and deaths.

The President of Iran, Hassan Rouhani, said, “Alarm bells were ringing for a fourth coronavirus wave”

He continued by stating that parts of the province Khuzestan were now entering the dreaded high-risk red zone. Rouhani uttered, “This means the beginning of moving toward the fourth wave. We all have to be vigilant to prevent this.”

Sadly, the Health Minister Saeed Namaki, knowing that weddings are popular in this season, uttered, “not to turn weddings into funerals.”

Voice of America reports, “On Friday, Iran received 100,000 of the 2 million doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine it has ordered, and state media said Moscow might increase the order to 5 million shots and allow Iran to produce the vaccine locally. Tehran also expects to receive more than 4 million doses of AstraZeneca’s shot.”

China and the Russian Federation – and various European nations and the United States of America – are producing various types of vaccines – some will be oral. However, Japan and South Korea, despite being highly developed, aren’t helping internationally when it comes to vaccine productions. Therefore, it is hoped that the Sputnik V and AstraZeneca vaccines – and others – including internal future vaccines – will alleviate the crisis in Iran during the fourth wave.
